I think we can all agree with this statement. Nothing healthy comes from comparing ourselves to others. Doing so will either leave you with a superiority complex or feeling resentful.
Which is a waste of your energy because guess what? -There will always be someone better or worse off than you.
That’s why it is so important that we stay in our own lane. The journey is long so we must enjoy it and honestly the only race that matters is the one with ourselves. I think it’s really important that we remember this. I think it’s just as important to teach our children this. Sure, a little competition is healthy but in a world obsessed with comparison we must emphasise the importance of being the best (and being ok with the worst) versions of ourselves- not someone else.
The worst part about our habit of comparison is that most of us don’t even know we are doing it. That’s why being more aware that we are comparing ourselves to others is crucial in stopping this thief from robbing us of our joy. Imagine looking back on a time in your life that wasn’t enjoyed as much as it should have been because you were stuck in a rut of comparing this-to-that.
Life is not about comparing, it’s not about who has got the better job, the happiest social media account, the cleverest kid. Life isn’t like that-that’s not what matters. You matter. You are enough. You are on your own journey and there isn’t anyone out there on the same journey as you. Your journey makes you unique, it makes you you- it separates you from everybody else and makes you aware of your own goals and values.
So don’t waste your energy focusing on other peoples’ lives rather than your own.
You matter. Your journey matters.
-& that’s what matters.
