Why is it that we spend so much time listening to others but very rarely do we listen to ourselves?
We listen to our children, our spouse, our mother, our boss, our friends, the people on the news, the parents at the school gates and so on and so on.
Taking a moment and shutting away the noise of the world to be alone with your thoughts, questions and ideas is essential to re-balancing yourself. We communicate with others on a daily basis so why not communicate with ourselves?
This isn’t reinventing the wheel, it’s a memo- a gentle nudge to remind you who you are and what matters the most to you. It’s a time to regather your thoughts, find perspective and align your mind, body and spirit when life shifts your balance.
So how do we know when we need to re-balance ourselves and align with what we want? For me, it’s a feeling I get deep inside my stomach, an anxious sort of feeling that makes my heart race. I feel overwhelmed, pessimistic and emotionally exhausted and I automatically go into self-destruct mode.
I worry about things not even in the present moment, I question what may happen in the future and I conjure up negative hypothetical scenarios in my mind which subsequently cause me to feel even more overwhelmed and anxious.
After years of feeling these negative waves of energy, I have only recently come to realise that it is my body’s way of telling me that I need to listen to myself. I must not self-destruct, I must self-communicate and to do that I must listen to what I really want.
We’re pretty lucky that as humans we have the capability and power to communicate with ourselves. Heck, research shows that how we think about ourselves can have a powerful effect on how we feel.
The mind is a funny thing because it can’t actually tell the difference between what is real and what is not. So to your body, your negative thoughts are reality.
This is why listening to how we feel in the present moment, not overthinking the past or worrying about what might be in the future is vital to align with who we are and what we want.
Because when we come from a place of alignment we have the power within ourselves to attract and create anything we desire.
